General Assembly 103rd - Summer 2008
Thank God for the Church of God! The Church of God gathered for her 103rd General Assembly from August 27-31, with a pre-assembly on the evening of the 26th in Cleveland, Tennessee.
It was a marvelous gathering of the Church that brought people from all around the world. The theme for this year's Assembly was "The Spirit is Pressing...to the Regions Beyond." Likewise the children's Assembly was entitled "Mission: To the Regions Beyond.'' However unlike previous Assemblies, this year it was held in Cleveland, Tennessee at the T.L. Lowery Ministry Center.
There were many messages from many of the fantastic preachers in God's church, along with beautiful singing and fantastic boosts. Again this year was a special treat for not only the VLBs, but everyone. We had an afterglow again this year and I personally believe it was better than last year and that next year's will be better than this. The highlights are too many to name for just the Afterglow, the assembly as a whole was just incredible.
To name a few of the Assembly's highlights it would have to be the welcoming in of Brother Alvarez from the Dominican Republic, Brother Sundis from Nepal and hearing the testimony of Brother Justol from Kenya. The Assembly continued to bring to mind the fact that the church of God is continuing and will continue to spread...to The Regions beyond!
To describe the feeling of the Assembly is in a way easy but also a little difficult, there are only so many words that go with amazing. However fantastic, wonderful, beautiful, glorious, precious, blessed and filled with love seem to cover most of them.
To many the Assembly was too short, but the Lord had his way. It was fantastic to see him move and bless throughout the time and the fellowship after the services was appreciated too. To see Brothers and sisters not only across the country, but across the world was just so precious, no one was guaranteed to make it there safely and no one is guaranteed next year either, but the Lord willing next year will be even better.
It was a blessing to be there for the 103rd Assembly and Lord willing there will be a 104Th.
Regional Convention - Summer 2008
The Church of God gathered the weekend of July 4-6 2008 in Kenosha, WI for our annual Regional Convention. It was a fantastic 4th of July weekend! No we didn't BBQ, see the parade or watch the fireworks, no no no we had Church!!!
On the evening of the 4th there was a fantastic surprise visit from our General Overseer and his wife Brother and Sister Nabors. Brother Arturo Aviles was our moderator and blessed us with his Annual Address and The Great Speckled Bird. The Lord also blessed us with the presence of the Jackson Family again this year. They were not only here to sing (which they did beautifully) Brother Alex, Sister Eva and Brother AJ Jackson all preached to the Church as well.
It was a bittersweet day come the afternoon of the 6th when the Convention came to a close, but PRAISE THE LORD THE ASSEMBLY IS NEAR!!!!!
NEW! Regional Family Camp - Summer 2008
Thank God for The Church of God!!! The Church of God Great Lakes Region had our annual family camp the weekend of June 27-29. The theme of the camp was "Our Appointed Time for Jubilee." And trust me it was a Happy time.
Sister Vickie Jones moderated the event and even preached to us. Most of the Region was able to come and God blessed us with messages from Brother and Sister Jimenez, Brother John Jones and a gleaner lesson from Brother Aviles. We were blessed with just so very much that weekend.
There were not only the beautiful services but there was the free time, the good meals, the gorgeous weather and that wonderful fellowship that happens when the Church of God gathers. Like all camps, or at least the real ones, there were bugs buzzing (some a little too close), fish swimming and there was plenty of fun.
It was sad that it ended so soon but that happens when the Church has a good time in the Lord, that old saying "time flies when you are having fun" is only partially correct. The saying can be changed to "time will always fly when the Church of God is having fun."
